In the article considers the problems of the monetary policy of the authorities in the French kingdom in the first quarter of the XV century. Exploring the features of monetary policy, the author focuses on the causes and consequences of the devaluation of money, which occurred in the period from 1415 to 1422. It is shown that the specificity of this process was determined by the coincidence of several factors. Among the key reasons for the devaluation are highlighted: the pan-European crisis associated with a shortage of precious metals, the political crisis in France itself, which led to the confrontation between King Charles VI, the Dukes of Burgundy and the Dauphin Charles, as well as the beginning of the English conquest. These objective conditions led to the disintegration of France into four spheres of influence. The related struggle of various political forces caused a rapid devaluation of silver money and entailed an economic crisis, in principle, making it easier for King Henry V to conquer France. It is noted that the process of money devaluation has strengthened the desire not only to unite the country, but also to restore a full-fledged coin.
