The growth in the number of academic papers in Islamovedeniye (Islamic Studies) and Musulmanskij Mir (Muslim World) journals in 2014-2018 calls for interpreting the development of Islamic studies in these journals from the standpoint of repeatability and representation of research topics. The author provides thematic content analysis of papers from 2014 to 2018 and up to March 1, 2019. Thematic content analysis is supplemented with bibliometric analysis with according to E. Garfield’s methodology, which permits to have a more qualified interpretation of collected data. The graphs and charts provided demonstrate the growth and decline in the number of papers in various research areas. The study shows that some research topics were continually renewed, while other important subject areas of Islamic studies remained underexplored.
