Automobile and tractor trains with trailers and semi-trailers have a number of advantages compared to single vehicles and are widely used in agriculture and various industries. Along with the advantages, motor-tractor trains, which are several articulated kinematic links, are inferior to single vehicles in terms of maneuverability and stability of movement and, from the point of view of active safety, are among the more dangerous vehicles. The stability of straight-line traffic is one of the important indicators that affect the safety of a tractor train in operating conditions, so the problem of improving this indicator has been and remains relevant. The stable movement of a tractor train is largely determined by the stable course of its trailer links, whose lateral deviations from the tractor's trajectory can occur at sufficiently low speeds. The article deals with the issues of stabilization of trailer links of an automotive train by using stabilizing devices in the articulated joints of kinematic links of an automotive train. The method of determining the critical speed according to the stability conditions of a tractor train with a two-axle trailer with the simultaneous use of stabilizing mechanisms in the towing device of the tractor and the support-turning device of the trailer is refined. The considered methodology makes it possible to determine the parameters of the stabilizing devices of the links of the tractor train (the required power moments) at the pre-project stage of modernization of the stabilizers, as well as when completing the tractor trains under operating conditions.
