The article focuses on two early– Crome Yellow (1921) and Antic Hay (1923) in relation to the culture of the preceding centuries and, correspondingly, in intertextual and intermedial referencing to the numerous cultural sources of the past. With the lack of a clearly expressed system of positive values in Huxley's early works, the adherence to literary and other cultural sources of the past takes the form of a “play with a world culture”, wherein all characters showcase their own limited value systems and represent their individual cultural background as a system of ‘regards' and ‘disregards'. Likewise, the polyphonic interaction of correlative ‘voices' turns into a polyphonic interaction of equivalent cultural backgrounds.
