The article deals with the text categories interaction in the original fiction text and its translation. The text category is defined as an essential parameter of the text that reflects a part of the whole text content. As one and the same text component can refer to various contents the categories also have a tendency to interact when explicated. On these grounds the author defines the notion of “text categories co-representation”. The author describes paradigmatic and syntagmatic peculiarities of the text categories “space” and “theme” co-representation in J. Milton’s poem “Paradise Lost” and in its first Russian translation (1777). With the help of continuous sampling technique the author singles out thematic chains containing units with the semantics of “space” in the original text of Book One of J. Milton’s poem and its Russian translation. The article aims at differentiating these units into “nucleus” and “periphery” on the grammatical basis and proves the possibility of describing the whole co-representation system of the categories analyzed with the help of the field method.
