The article analyzes the role and importance of local press for inter-cultural communications. Thus it is proved that in the debate between the Internet media and social networks the local media possess a number of advantages even today, despite of the fact that new information technologies have been rapidly developing. The author reflects upon the possible ways of paper media survival and development considering challenging economic conditions. The author uses analysis data concerning information activity of the Ural regional editions as a basis for his research.
