The article studies the issue of objectivity as it marks out the expert community’s evaluation of artworks. According to the proposed argument, experts’ perception of artworks is significantly influenced by normative conventions. Based on the results of the sociological study, we analyse the channels of perception and the criteria used by the Ekaterinburg expert community in evaluating artworks, detailing the experts’ attitudes towards normative boundaries and gender aspects reflected in the works of contemporary professional art.
