The book is the fully translated third part of Daniel Defoe's famous novel about Robinson Crusoe, first published in English in 1720, and now published in Russian for the first time. The third part of the novel, "Serious reflections of Robinson Crusoe", is little known to researchers and the public; however, it is all three parts of the novel taken together ("The Amazing Adventures of Robinson Crusoe", "The Further Adventures of Robinson Crusoe", and this one) that provide a complete picture of the author's initial plan. Defoe's novel about a sailor from York reflects the contradictory nature of the history of England at the turn of the 17th–18th centuries, vividly manifested in the conflict of two moral and ethical canons – the Christian and the bourgeois. The third part of the novel is a collection of moralistic essays that gives an idea of Defoe's nonconformist moral and ethical values. The book is of particular interest for specialists in the history and culture of Early Modern Britain, as well as for a wide range of readers familiar with the delightful history of Robinson Crusoe.
