Motor transport is one of the main consumers ofpetroleum products. In the context of the rapidly growing fleet of Russia, it is necessary to develop and implement effective measures to reduce the consumption of scarce fuels of oil origin and stimulate the use of alternative fuels, which is significant from the point of view of the environmental and economic safety of the regions and the state as a whole. The aim of the work is to assess the prospects for the consumption of alternative fuels and energy by cars in Russia. The authors highlighted the main ways to reduce the consumption of gasoline and diesel fuel by vehicles, including the use of alternative types of motor fuel. As one of the most promising directions for the development of alternative energy in the automotive sector in Russia, a transition to gas-filled fuel is proposed. The study presents the main problems of gasification of vehicles and ways to solve them. Effective actions in these areas will reduce the consumption of scarce fuel and energy resources, improve the environmental situation in megacities, and generally improve the environmental and economic safety of Russia's regions.
