Traditionally, the main direction in assessing the quality of assets of financial institutions is to determine the market (fair) value of tangible assets, namely financial assets and real estate. However, the recent negative events that have occurred with the major Russian financial market subjects, have revealed shortcomings in this approach. First of all, since the objects of intellectual property and other intangible assets are either undervalued or overvalued. Based on these facts and events, the authors consider specific aspects of the formation of value on the intellectual assets of financial institutions and reveal the nature of financial risks for the entire national financial system generated by inadequate approaches of rightholders to determining the value of intellectual property - exclusive rights to the brand.
