The authors analyze offi cials' public statements, and UN resolutions on the Jerusalem's status as well as the reasons that led the US authorities to a dramatic change of course on the Middle East issue in early December 2017. The actuality of the Jerusalem problem in the current international relations is indicated. Furthermore, the article analyses the events that have taken place from the date of signing the decision to relocate the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The main purpose of the article is to analyze the issue of the status of the city, based on the primary sources of the Arab-Israeli confrontation. In addition, the authors indicate the states' positions, which diverge into two opposite views on the legitimacy of the Embassy's relocation. The authors conclude that it is necessary to change the existing order in the Middle East around the Jerusalem problem.
