Protection of the rights and interests of children in the field of school education is an important indicator of the implementation of the principles and ideals of civil society in the country. The Federal Law “On Education in the Russian Federation” has consolidated the status of schoolchildren parents as participants in educational relations and fixed their right to protect the interests of children. The article attempts to analyze the parents' practices for the protection of rights and interests of children in the field of school education. These practices are considered as a manifestation of the formation of parent community as a subject of civil society. The empirical basis of the research is the results of a sociological study carried out using the following methods: a. analysis of documents (reports and statistical information reflecting violations of the rights and interests of children in the field of education and citizens' appeals to the authorities for their protection), b. mass survey of parents of Yekaterinburg pupils (2019, n=7281), c. in-depth interviews with Yekaterinburg parents (2021, n=20). The research conducted has shown that parents prefer to use informal practices of individual protection of children's rights and interests in the field of education. The author highlights the key problems of parents' unwillingness to be involved in the practices of protecting the educational rights and interests of children. In conclusion the author argues that there is a positive trend of increasing the number of collective parents' practices for the protection of rights and interests of children in the field of school education. It is interpreted as a manifestation of the need for self-organization and collective mobilization realized by the parent community to protect the interests of children and parents in the field of education.
