The article deals with the lexico-semantic and functional-pragmatic levels of the discourse “Declaration of Love” in the stories of A. P. Chekhov. It has been revealed that the author’s cognitive attitudes are reflected in various variants of the author’s representation of the situation of declaration of love at the level of vocabulary, spatio-temporal characteristics and in the characters’ speech.
