Any changes, whether political or economic, are reflected in the appearance of cities. If changes occur gradually, the urban system adapts to them, but if they happen rapidly, conflicts and crises arise. Conflict zones result from inattention to the context and ignoring of the urban planning norms of the past. As a rule, architectural and urban conflicts between the old and the new are resolved by the demolition of historical buildings, which impoverishes the city depriving it of its memory. It is possible to prevent the emergence of new architectural and urban conflicts and mitigate the old ones. Using as an example the Kond district in Yerevan, which has evolved since the 14th century retaining the labyrinth frame and scale of buildings unchanged, we consider ways to preserve the historical environment and the possibilities of overcoming the existing architectural and urban planning conflicts and preventing new ones.
