The proposed process is related to reactive metal production and particularly to sponge titanium and zirconium production through metal chloride magnesium reduction with subsequent magnesium and its chloride removal by vacuum separation. The new design was proposed in the form of a globe unit with an internal heater. Globe unit development will allow proceeding to significantly larger outputs in one cycle as compared to the semi-combined and combined units. The heater arrangement inside of the retort will allow reduction of energy consumption in the course of sponge production to the next lower order. Replacement of the retort sheet steel by the sheet titanium or zirconium will allow the reduced titanium or zirconium quality improvement. Elimination of the operation of cake ejection from the retort will allow omitting of the retort cleaning operation.
