Transformation of the parental leave system is seen as one of the mechanisms to support families with children. The study aims to assess the awareness of the population entitled to parental leave about the legally established system of parental leaves and its possibilities. As a method of collecting information, a survey of parents with children under the age of 1.5 years was used. The main conclusions are as follows. First, parents' awareness of the possibilities to use parental leave flexibly is at a rather low level. More educated parents and women are more aware of parental leave arrangements. Second, the informing of parents mainly occurs through informational Internet portals, the media and acquaintances; the specificity of formats for population groups of different sex and level of education was revealed. Third, specific informational areas, on which the most common channels of information are focused, are identified; thematic gaps are revealed. The results of the study may be used to improve the informational component of demographic policy, as well as in the activities of public authorities who discuss the prospects for transforming the parental leave system.
