The article is devoted to the press of South Africa in the middle of 1940s - the beginning of 1960s. The publication is based on the materials of newspapers published in South-African Union, South-Western Africa and South Rhodesia. These newspapers are kept at the Library of Congress (Washington, DC, USA). The authors prove that press is an important historical source regarding the processes of political, economic and socio-cultural modernization of South Africa.
