Over the past few years the world’s attention was mainly drawn to the events taking place in Syria. This fact overshadowed similar civil conflict in another Arab state Yemen, where pro-government forces and a variety of opposition groups fight each other. An important feature of the internal conflict in Yemen is a deep involvement of some external forces, especially Saudi Arabia and Iran. However, in contrast with Syrian conflict, where Iran supports Assad’s regime and Saudi Arabia supports some of his opponents, in Yemen the policy of these states is diametrically opposite: Saudi Arabia stands at the head of a coalition of Arab countries on the side of the forces loyal to Yemeni President and Iran actively supports the main forces of the Yemeni opposition. Based on the analysis of Arab and Iranian periodicals and other sources the article focused on the question of what policy goals Saudi Arabia and Iran pursue in their meddling in internal civil conflict in Yemen.
