The article considers the problem of sustainable development. The purpose of this study is to determine the role of indigenous peoples in the sustainable development of the region, as well as to identify the relationship between the components of sustainable development, taking into account the involvement of indigenous peoples in protecting the natural environment. The necessity of developing a monitoring system by indigenous peoples is justified. The goal of creating a perfect monitoring system is to obtain relevant and reliable data for a timely response and the systematic reduction of negative environmental impacts. The natural environment is the basis of life for the indigenous peoples of the North, and bioresources are the main source of food supply. Over time, the value of biological resources will be increased, and therefore, the economic development can not continue in isolation. To determine the degree of harmony between economic development and ecological condition necessary to the application of new approaches and methods. Based on statistical methods was developed a correlation model between economic development and environmental performance to identify their relationship on the basis of government reports on the environmental situation. The developed model of correlation can be used a wide range of government companies and general principles of this model - companies of different industries. The results obtained by this model can serve as a primary platform for forecasting and management decision-making in the framework of achieving harmony between economic development and environmental performance. The model was tested for correlation of data of government reports on the environmental situation in the Khanty-Mansiysk autonomous district-Ugra. Testing has shown a positive relationship between the two components of the region’s sustainable development: the economy and ecology. This result demonstrates a high level of social responsibility of region under investigation in terms of environmental protection.
