The article studies of the image of the police in static polycode texts. The police is one of the most important executive institutes of the state. It is evident that the positive image allows the police to effectively carry out their functions. The rapidly developing means of Internet communication contribute to the police image formation. The aim of this study is to investigate static polycode texts which focus on the image of the police and to analyze metaphors as a linguocognitive mechanism for the formation of the image of the law enforcement agencies. The research corpus consists of a series of memes and demotivators published on the Internet (300 static polycode texts were selected for analysis). The cluster analysis of the material allowed the author to single out several metaphorical models: literary, animalistic, culinary, criminal, religious, military, morbial, commercial, architectural, monarchical, and pedagogical. The analysis showed that the literary metaphorical model is the dominant one, which is used in more than 30% of cases. The high frequency of this model confirms the thesis about the literature-centricity of Russian culture. It has been revealed in the course of the study that a large number of metaphors containing negative connotations about the police are present in the material analyzed. The prevalence of negative and ironic images may be dictated by the specificity of the genre or the satirical function of the meme and demotivator. However, the active use of models with the conceptual vectors of fear, neglect, and discontent affects the attitude to police activities and suggests that police officers cannot be trusted, law enforcement officers take bribes and this organization does not perform its functions properly.
