The article, based on the analysis of battle scene texts of correspondents of the magazines “Russian Reporter” and “Komsomolskaya Pravda”, describes the features of the representation of the image of a “little man” experiencing deprivation and suffering from hostilities. The basic techniques of constructing such an image are highlighted and characterized, supported by a significant number of examples. These techniques include the presentation of portrait features and the emotional state of the “little man”. The citation actively used in journalistic texts makes it possible to give the image documentary accuracy. Other techniques highlighted in the study comprise contrast, presentation of significant biographical facts, appeal to social aspects, and demonstration of the resilience and humility of the little people described. A special category of images of the “little man” in battle scene journalism are war children, who, due to their age, have their own perception of what is happening. The specificity of constructing the image of a “little man” in Russian battle scene journalism is determined by the fact that the idea of innocence is always immanent in the image. The specific feelings that the reader has after meeting the character are determined by their story, motivation, and outlook on life. The author's task in this case is to portray them as objectively and unbiasedly as possible. The article is based on an impressive theoretical foundation, representing numerous publications of Russian scholars on the creation of an image in a journalistic work. The analysis uses the characteristic features of the “little man” type described by the critic V. G. Belinsky in the 1840s on the material of Russian fiction.
