The article's focus is on educational communities and their nonlinear dynamics in a metropolis. We argue that a metropolis as a major center of science, education and culture has a profound effect on the nonlinear dynamics of its educational communities. A definition is given of such communities and their central place in the education system is identified. Principal methodological approaches to the sociological study of educational communities are considered in detail.
