The article deals with the export component of the external economic security, the threat of final turning Russia into a raw materials colony of the world economy after the WTO accession and its prevention by shifting to the geo-economic model of operating in the world space. The strategy of the geo-economic development of the region as an instrument of the realization of the governmental program The Development of Foreign Economic Activity for the period 2012-2016 with Sverdlovsk region as an example is offered.
