On a sample consisting of seventy-eight students of different academic groups, carried out to check the possibility of approximation of the academic progress of students on the basis of the data of the questionnaire Tatyana Ilina. It is shown that the coefficients of correlation equations that approximate the performance, for various subgroups of the sample lies in the range from 0.25 to 1. A similar correlation coefficient for the entire sample was reduced to 0.06, which can be interpreted as a lack of correlation between the performance and parameters of the questionnaire. It is shown that the total sample, consisting of students subgroups showed the correlation coefficients are close to unity, leads to a significant decrease of the initial coefficients of correlation, which casts doubt on the expediency of application of methods of principal components and factor analysis. Division by the method of self-organizing Kohonen maps the total sample into three clusters characterized by the decline in average achievement, did not produce satisfactory results. In result, it was concluded about a lack of communication motivational sphere of the questionnaire T.I.Ilina with average academic performance of students. It was suggested that the motivational sphere of the questionnaire shows the ratio of students to the educational process of the University, and the realities of the external environment habitat students.
