The Effect of Lateral Back Pressure Conditions on Magnesium Plasticity during Cold Upsetting. B.I. Kamenetsky, Yu.N. Loginov, N.A. Kruglikov. The results of investigations of cold upsetting of Mg90 magnesium specimens are presented. It has been found that in the case of upsetting on smooth plates, degree of strain prior to failure is 0.06 - 0.08, while in the case of upsetting of a specimen in a copper cylinder, it can be increased up to 0.45 - 0.67. The use of the finite element method in combination with ABAQUS software shows a reduction in a level of compression stresses created by the cylinder because of occurrence of spaces at the boundary between the specimen and the cylinder. The scheme of cold upsetting of a specimen proper in the cylinder with the help of two rams is offered. Due to this technique degree of strain prior to failure was increased up to 1.2, while upsetting forces were reduced.
