Purpose. The paper presents a contrastive analysis of Russian and English phraseological units in terms of the axiological aspect of their usual semantics. Methodology. The study analyses semantics of phraseological units with numerical components in terms of evaluative cultural semantics, which helps to obtain a more detailed information on the evaluation characteristics as seen by cultural studies. The analysis of language semantics of the phraseological units is carried out on the basis of the comparative method using the method of component analysis in its definition variant as well as statistical techniques. Linguistic description of the phraseological units within thematic groups is provided with the usage of a number of synchronous techniques of analysis, namely such methods of general science as analysis, synthesis, comparison and classification. Results. The study identifies both common and specific features of axiological usual semantics actualization of phraseological units with numerical component parts. Practical implications. The results presented provide more details on cultural peculiarities of evaluation types on the level of universal knowledge in the Russian and English linguistic pictures of the world.
