The article specifies a number of fundamental processes typical of information age and posing new challenges to higher education institutions. There is carried out a comparative analysis of modern trends in teaching in higher education institutions in Russia and the USA. On the basis of the conducted empirical research there are detected both similarities and substantial differences in the applied forms and methods of teaching, content of the subjects and how comprehensively the latter are being taught.
