The article presents the results of the study of the relationship of psychological defenses of adolescents with the type of character accentuation. Psychological protection is understood as such mental mechanism that helps to cope with the main affective processes and drives. Character accentuation is defined as an overly pronounced character trait that makes a teenager vulnerable to specific influences. The study is based on the R. Plutchik’s typology of the psychological defenses and K. Leonhard’s typology of accentuations of the character. According to the results of the study, the relationship of psychological defenses with certain types of character accentuations has been established. In particular there are links between the reactive formation and sticking, emotiveness, anxiety and exaltation; between substitution and excitability; between projection and jam; between compensation and dysthymia, emotiveness; between regressions and dysthymia, cyclotymy; between repression and exaltation; between denial and demonstrativeness; between intellectualization and pedantry. The results of the study can be used to develop programs for the psychological support of adolescents.
