Aim. To investigate the unique aspects of exercise performance testing in athletes with health conditions.
Materials and methods. Sixty athletes (comprising young, professional, and amateur individuals) with various types and severity of health conditions participated in the study. Each athlete underwent individually selected exercise performance tests, which included leg cycle ergometry, arm cycle ergometry, or a modified Harvard step-test.
Results. The selection of exercise tests from a variety of approaches was justified based on the specific types of health conditions experienced by athletes. It was observed that heart rate (HR) response to exercise loads and HR dynamics during the recovery period following loading were not significantly influenced by factors such as age, gender, type of sport, or athletes’ health conditions.
Conclusions. The cardiac response to exercise across all selected methods confirmed the adequate choice of exercise tests for athletes with health conditions.
