A new method of estimating the friction coefficient in conditions of metal strain is developed. The procedure suggests upsetting of prismatic specimens having a square cross section, measuring of the curvature radius of the lateral sides of the sample and determination of the friction coefficient using the diagrams obtained by the authors. To assess the effectiveness of the procedure we used the finite element method in calculations and compare the results obtained with experimental data that match each other rather well.
