The aim of the research is to study the ideas of Ural parents about the content of grandparental labour and its results for different generations of families. Grandparental labour is understood as the activity of grandparents aimed at grandchildren (childcare, development, and assistance to grandchildren), accompanied by the time spent by the grandparents, reducing the corresponding costs of parents for parental work. The authors use a mixed research strategy, drawing conclusions based on the results of an in-depth semi-formalized interviews and a sociological survey of parents. Empirical studies were carried out in 2020-2021 in the Sverdlovsk region. The results of the study are as follows: grandparental labour is associated with material support for children and grandchildren in various forms, helping grandchildren in their studies, organizing certain aspects of the life of grandchildren; this work is gender-tinged - grandmothers act as its subjects more often than grandfathers, and maternal grandparents work with grandchildren more often than grandparents through the child's father; parents see the main effects of grandparental labour in strengthening intergenerational relationships and strengthening the feeling of “neediness” for grandparents; almost half of the parents surveyed consider it necessary to financially reward grandparental labour on the part of the state. The results of the study can be used to improve the activities carried out within the framework of the federal project "Older Generation" of the national project "Demography", and can also expand the list of its indicators, recording the dynamics of the involvement of the older generation in the implementation of the functions of grandparental labour.
