This article analyzes the experience of using complementary currency system a negative interest rate in the United States and Russia – the so-called «stamp script» or «hot bons». Considered in detail the course of the Great Depression in the United States and its impact on the financial and economic sphere of the country, as well as – local solutions to overcome the crisis by introducing local currencies. As a successful example of the use of analogues of «hot boom» in Russia is economic experiment with Shaymuratovo (so-called «shaymuratiki») in 2010–2013. Accumulated practice of the local currency for the period from the 1930s of XX century till now they confirm that they can be used on a wide scale. The paper presents the main reasons for the success of local currencies such as branded certificates, as well as recommendations for their use in modern conditions.
