The article analyzes the issues of patriotic education. The authors describe aspects of the implementation of the study of Russian history, which includes consideration of historical persons' activities. The authors study the philosophical and religious ideas of Archbishop Luke Voino-Yasenetsky, forming civil qualities of the personality, tolerance, and conviction to fulfill his duty. The activity of St. Luke was carried out in difficult circumstances: expulsion, surveillance, snitching and the lack of development of religious-philosophical views of patristic literature. These courageous actions of the person who decided on the announcement of their understanding of the world and the role of man in it, are a good example. The article analyzes the peculiarities of formation of patriotic qualities of the personality on the basis of actualization of the spiritual sense of human activity. A man is capable of rational knowledge. Being inside of space and time, people are only capable of subjective perception of reality. The knowledge of the true, according to the thinker, is available to the human spirit through the intuition of the heart, which makes possible the knowledge of spiritual world, and overcoming the limitations of space and time. Consideration of the ideas of St. Luke forms the values of citizenship, patriotism, willingness to carry out one's duty consciously, that provides the focus of the educational process in the formation of a sense of love to the country, and on this basis, the strengthening of moral and psychological stability to the realities of today.
