In the modern world one of the main economic resources is information. Information technologies have become an integral part of society development and factor for economic relations efficiency increase. Due to this fact the paper devoted to theoretical basics development of industrial enterprises digital potential assessment is coming more urgent. In the frames of this investigation with a help of general scientific methods of analysis and synthesis the article studies the present approaches to terms and methods of digital potential assessment. It was found out that in domestic economic literature this term is not studied enough; the most part of today’s foreign and Russian methods are aimed at carrying out of inter-country, regional or branch analysis of digital development and only a small part can be used for digital assessment of certain enterprise. The considered methods are based on assessment of organizations’ maintenance indices of modern program systems, level of automation of this or that business process, volume of expenditures on IT spheres. But these methods do not allow carrying out an analysis of one of key digital potential constituent as current ability of enterprise for individual carrying out of these or those stages of information technologies lifecycle. The investigation outcomes are the authors’ identification of industrial enterprise digital potential assessment and a set of recommendations for these indices improvement. The authors have come to the conclusion that the reached results can be a base for scientific approach development and tools for digital assessment potential and forecasting preparedness for digital transformation. The perspective of future investigations is development of industrial enterprise digital potential assessment method taking into account the offered indices. This paper can be useful for scientific society representatives who carry out investigations in the field of digital economics.
