The modernization of ferrous metallurgy, at the present stage of its development has formed various national and regional patterns of production and consumption of steel products. It is well known that the use of secondary resources is extremely economical to reduce costs of production. Furthermore it reduces environmental pollution, helps to ensure quality products. The article is devoted to definition of ways of use of metal scrap in ferrous metallurgy of Russia and the establishment of their number in the foreseeable future from a technical and economic point of view. Optimization of the consumption of secondary resources of iron turns into a complex and multifaceted scientific problem. One of the authors of the article work was also undertaken on the assessment of flows of secondary resources by means of computer simulation, followed by the construction of models and selection of optimization criteria in evaluating the available resources of scrap using a computer. Using «Simulation model of recycling» secondary resources of ferrous metallurgy of the calculations for the optimization of scenarios of possible development of the metallurgical industry.
