The article is devoted to the understanding of experience and its relation to reason in the philosophical system of the famous Russian thinker Boris Nikolaevich Chicherin (1828-1904). Chicherin is primarily known as a philosopher of law, his discussion with V. S. Solovyov on the ethics of law was paradigmatic. But Chicherin was not only concerned about the problems of the philosophy of law, he paid attention to other philosophical problems, and set himself the task of creating a comprehensive philosophical system. The article examines his work “Science and Religion” (1870), in which he paid special attention to the question of experience, its philosophical, religious, scientific understanding. Chicherin's conception was influenced by the fascination with the philosophical ideas of G.V. Hegel. In general, Chicherin's worldview position was characterized by an understanding of the need for the interrelation of reason and experience for the development of the spiritual world, philosophy, science, religion, art, faith, and all spheres of human existence.
