The article proposes and tests a comprehensive cultural methodology for the study of the concepts of life and death in the context of the Duanjou festival in China. The author seeks to synthesize cultural-historical, semiotic approaches and comparative analysis in order to achieve a complete understanding of the semantic content of these important concepts for man and culture. The infl uence of this holiday on the interpretation of life and death in Chinese culture is analyzed.
