The article describes topical issues of interaction of the editor and author of the scientific text; the definitions of the concepts “scientific monograph”, “author of the scientific monograph”, “editor of the scientific monograph”, “scientific editor” are given; the essence of editorial vision of the scientific text, the components of competence of the scientific text editor, valuable reference points of the scientific monograph are explained. Positive consequences of existence of the Russian school of scientific editing and negative consequences of its destruction, including the shift of responsibility domains between the author and editor of the scientific text, as well as the interaction domain narrowing between the editor and author are revealed during the process of work on the scientific monograph.
