Results of the first decade of the development of civilization in the XXI century identified strategically important directions of its development, which consists in the global and increasingly intensive informatization of society. The information development of society is considered today not only as a necessary condition for its competitiveness in the world community, but also as an important factor in socio-economic development, effective use of human potential, improving the quality of life of the population and ensuring national security. Information as a type of resources has features that significantly distinguish it from other types of resources, for example, natural, industrial, financial, etc. The most important differences are non-disappearance during consumption, non-alienation during exchange or transfer, and preservation of consumer properties indefinitely. The authors propose to consider the concept of information resources in the context of discussing the informatization of modern society, which consists in the increasing use of information as a type of resources to supplement and replace two other basic resources - material and energy.
