The article is devoted to the analysis of the academic professionals' occupational health, which largely determines the qualifi ed high school workers' innovative potential. The academic environment's transformation, the conversion of teachers into ordinary employees changes their purpose and motivation for their professional activity. At the same time the choice of the academic professional's behavior strategy depends on the reserves of human and social capital and on the resource possibilities of age cohorts. The conclusions are based on empirical research in the case-study style, occuring on the regional academic labor market, on the analysis of resources and young teachers and “age” professors' professional perspectives. Analysis of the material of the local sociological study of the Ural Federal University teachers' professional health led to the conclusion that the professional identity of young teachers can't be formed completely under the infl uence of changes in the academic environment due to the lack of oneness in the understanding the teaching profession's purposes and the weakness of the valueregulatory features of life and science activity's professional continuity.
