The article analyzes the peculiarities of cooperation between Armenia and the European Union since the independence of the Republic in 1991. Special attention is paid to the characteristics of bilateral agreements on cooperation and Armenia's participation in the programs of the European neighborhood policy and the Eastern partnership. The factors impeding the establishment of closer ties between the European Union and Armenia are also considered.
