The article reveals constitutive characteristics of the Internet discourse in terms of its influence on the audience. The constitutive characteristics of the Web discourse under consideration include its cognitive potential, interactivity and variability. The author outlines the problem of influence of the Internet discourse on the processes of perception, interpretation of information and self-realization of the user on the Web. The article also studies the effect of such text categories as temporality, locative and problematic nature, authorship, target orientation and eventfulness which are specifically transformed in the Internet discourse under consideration. The Web discourse is portrayed as a global formation comprising subordinate sub-discourses. Sub-discourses, in their turn, display different composition and content configurations that influence the users’ minds and emotions. Special attention is paid to the theory of discursive protection and tools ensuing that the user can surf the Web in a comfortable way, saving him/her from communication failures or superfluous actions and influencing the discursive content of the Web. The article highlights the issues of responsibility for the information provided on the Internet, falsification of Network data, data redundancy, dual capacity as an author and its target and transformation of text as an element of communication model. These constitutive characteristics of the Internet discourse are all interconnected and simultaneously influence the user.
