The article analyzes the specific features of functioning of the lexeme "blue" on the verbal level of the British and American Internet and rock discourses. The analysis involves contexts of the spheres of each of the above mentioned linguo-cultures and the areas of creation of the blue color metaphors over the period from 2014 to date. The authors highlight the conceptual and value-based components in relation to the blue color (emotional state, personal traits, social structure / institution, religion, norm / standard, illness) and, through a series of examples, illustrate the differences of interpretation of the color under study in the United States and Great Britain. The analysis has revealed the boundaries between the discourses under investigation, as well as the proximity of the distinctive characteristics (influence on different levels of perception, recipient's “involvement” effect, imperativeness, desire to express protest, etc.). The established conceptual relationships are considered using a broad approach to the selection of research material, which enables to cover a significant and diverse amount of information. Particular attention is paid to the areas where the discourses overlap each other in the representation of the blue color, for example, while forming the image of the police in the context of escalation of the conflict between the citizens and the law enforcement agencies. The authors analyze the metaphorical means of expressing this conflict both in the vast virtual Internet space and its representation in rock music.
