The paper shows that Russian pro-government media widely used the nomination supporters of federalization to create a positive image of separatists during the coverage of military and political conflict in Ukraine. However, the meaning of this nomination contradicted the real characteristics of the object. This led to the deformation of reality, which was constructed in media discourse. The nomination supporters of federalization was also used in opposition media discourse in neutral or critical context
