The paper shows that the construction of the Friend–Foe images in the modern Russian media discourse leads to polarization of society. This effect is enhanced by extending the boundaries of media discourse and activation of the mass audience which has got the ability to directly participate in political communication. At the same time, journalists take part in the ideological struggle what sometimes contradicts with their institutional status.
