The article reveals the basis and specificity of teleological approach concerning the problem of studying and the description of the research object in the biological picture of the world. The consideration of various points of view concerning the issues of the essence and specificity of teleological approach allows demonstrating that the analysis of life processes involves an appeal to the teleological method of describing and explaining, because it allows fixing the nature of feasibility and appropriateness inherent in the structures and functions of the living.
