The authors proposed to consider and disclose the concept of sustainability in architecture in this paper. The concept of sustainability in architectural and artistic context was synthesized using the method of intensions and extensions. The statements of representatives of the architectural community, devoted to the problems of sustainable urban development were analyzed as well. The preservation of historical and cultural heritage and the individuation of the new architecture by changing professional paradigm are considered to be key aspects on the way to sustainability in architecture.
