The article investigates the problem of interpretation of musical classics (on the example of the Yekaterinburg theater The Ural Opera Ballet. The article analyzes the premiere performance Don Quixote by M. Petipa-L. Minkus (1869-1871), the choreography of A. Gorsky in 1900 (artists: K. Korovin and A. Golovin). The artistic and musical-theatrical links with the traditions of the culture of the Silver age are revealed. The new aspects of the play’s creative interpretation by the modern producers (choreographer Y. Burlak, conductor A. Bogorad, artists: A. Pikalova and T. Noginova) are considered. The author concludes that a bright and spectacular performance — a dance extravaganza refl ecting the spirit of the culture of the Russian “spiritual Renaissance” of the early twentieth century was born.
