This paper is devoted to the analysis of the phenomenon of language play and its realization on the level of word-building in the English language. Language play is studied in communicative, pragmatic and functional respects in publicist texts of British mass-media. The paper investigates evaluative function of the language play and its manifestation techniques in terms of character and degree of the evaluative quality.
