The article analyzes the metaphoric combination silver age on the material of statements from the mass media. The authors identify the conditions of use of this euphemism due to the socio-cultural context which replaces the bureaucratic age of survival. Positive connotative increments of the figurative combination are determined. It is indicated that in writing euphemism is supported by meta-language quotes as well as meta-operators: so-called, now they say and others.
